O'Murchadha Pictures' Realm: Asking for Feedback

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yg49ZDcg57c&feature=youtu.be
I've been using HitFilm Express for about a year and I'm always discovering new things to do in it. I absolutely love this software and have no regrets about downloading it.
I've been making videos on YouTube for over 3 years and have been trying to get a production studio started (at least in name only) where I can do more professional work alongside vlogs.
I decided to start with a Production Logo.
I've been a Whovian about as long as I've been a YouTuber and wanted to use the video feedback effect that was used in the Classic Series because of how inexpensive and easy it was to do (to some extent) and have been experimenting with it on and off.
Last week I decided to try using FiLMiC Classic App and mirrored my iPhone to my Apple TV and was really impressed that I got something new.
But yesterday was when I hit the jackpot.
I put the footage from one of the clips into HitFilm, scaled the footage up a bit, shifted the anchor points, then added a Reflection effect, and got this.
I was so amazed by what I got, I decided to add some music and export it as it is.
This hasn't been color enhanced in any way, what you're seeing came from the original footage.

Video is set to Private, so can't be seen.
-
Thanks for letting me know. It's set to public now.
-
Nice! Is the music yours? It really gives the clip a sense of atmosphere.
Also, it reminds me a bit of V'Ger, from the first Star Trek movie...
-
The music came from Kevin MacLeod at incompetech.com called "Shores of Avalon"
-
Nicely done! I kept waiting for Patrick Troughton's face.
I did a "Tom Baker" tunnel in Hitfilm, but this method requires the particle sim, so would be Pro-only.
Sorry, for some reason my phone insists on posting the link at the top of the post.
-
@Triem23 Thanks, that means a lot coming from you. Love your Tom Baker tunnel.
As for the face appearance, that's something I haven't figured out yet.
-
For a Troughton look, load your face into its own Composite Shot and mask/key.
Bring this into your main comp then you'll be using Set Matte to do the wipe. Basically the same techniques as the linked fractal wipe tutorial.
-
Thanks! The TARDIS tunnel is is based on a trick @NxVisualStudio showed me.
Different methods can easily do the diamond and circle tunnels in Express. The TARDIS tunnel can be done in Express, but it's tedious to set up
-
@Triem23 Oh, awesome I'll have to try that sometime.
I did figure out a low-tech solution for the face appearance which involves lighting the actor and using the camera's exposure to capture his/her reflection on the screen.
-
Glad to see a lot of people are impressed with this that it motivated me to get this done.
This is Rough Cut MKI of my Production Logo. Let me know what you think.
Music was composed by a friend of mine.
-
Another Day. Another Rough Cut.
Added a Displacement to the text and made it 3D this time.
-
I still like it. Since you're going for a retro, clean look that.. Might be done.
-
Production Logo Rough Cut MKIII (Final Cut?)
@Triem23 Thanks for the Fractal Wipe Tutorial. It gave me an idea. I feel like this might be the Final Cut.
Until the next idea hits me.
-
Very nice.
-
At last, the real final cut is here.
-
I like it.
-
@OMurchadha_Pictures Great work! I really like the effects you've managed to produce!
-
I completed my VFX Short a couple days ago to launch a new YouTube Channel.
It took me 6 months to complete and I'm very proud of it.
-
And THAT is why there's peace binding at most conventions. At least the Guests of Honor weren't hurt...
-
I wanted to see if I could make a pentagram in HitFilm 4 Express since the only shapes available are rectangles and ellipsis. I did make a shield earlier inspired by Javert Valbarr.
-
-
That came out nicely.
Unrelated note--years ago playing around with the particle sim back in Hitfilm Ultimate 2 this accidentally happened.
-
@Omurchadha_Pictures certainly looking like it is on the right path. A couple of bits of feedback. Firstly I would sort the background black out so that it is pure black that way it will look nicer in the finished render (or it does bug me). The second thing is have a play with the reveal mask, needs some feathering and maybe smooth in / out the keyframes on the movement. Not sure which HF your using.
@Triem23 show off.
-
@Andy001z If it were intentional it'd be showing off. As it was, total accident of particle sim settings, and I couldn't recreate that if I tried...
It amuses me that I said it would be good for a "Doctor Strange" magic effect two years before that movie came out. ;-)
-
@Triem23 yes maybe you bent time and stuff. It's good to share and inspire which I think you did here.
-
@Andy001z Thanks for the feedback, the smooth keyframes really add to the reveal. Also, I'm using the current Express version.
-
Now you getting it, much better. It might be a tad slow to reveal but that's personal taste.
-
Suggest you take a look at this tutorial for a simple way to break up the wipe so it's not a straight line.
-
-
Yeah that works nicely. It's a subtle difference with the thin lines, but you can really see it crossing the interior pentagon--the horizontals aren't just popping in, but fading more. Nice!
