NX500 shoots 4k with a 1.7 scaled crop, but theres a mod for a ZERO crop 2k recording mode.... anyone know if HF supports 2k? I was thinking I read that it didn't in the past but cant recall...

Thanks everyone!

    I'm gonna say it does. "2k" footage is basically 1080p, and several Hitfilm users have used the original 2.5k BMCC.

    Just FYI. 1920x1080 footage is a 16:9 aspect ratio under an HD broadcast standard. Technically it is not considered "2k" footage.

    2048x1080 footage is 1.89:1 aspect ratio DCI, which is odd, since common used aspect ratios are 4:3, 1.78:1, 1.85:1 and 2.35:1. It's a format that just doesn't make much sense, other than providing just a little bit of wiggle room for stabilization if you're cropping to a 1.85 or 2.35 aspect ratio.

    3840x2160 footage IS considered "4k" footage, even though, um, it's not 4k wide... But, I assume the standards board allowed slop for marketing purposes. Of course 3840x2160 is twice the dimensions of 1920x1080, thus 16:9. 4096x2160 DCI is the same strange aspect ratio as the 2048x1080.

    So. Hitfilm Pro cheerfully does any project or comp size up to 4096x2160. You're good with the 2k. Hitfilm Express users should be able to import 2k footage, but a Project/Comp maxes out at 1920x1080, so you'd loose just a touch off the edges.

    In 'Action Camera' world, 2K can mean anything from 1920x1440 (squarer aspect ratio, good for cropping top/bottom ) to 2560x1440 to 2448x2448 (360 degree camera).

    Basically any random pair of numbers between 1080p and 4K, although GoPro also do what they call 2.7k, which is 2704x1524.

    Edit: Maximum size in Pro is 4096x3112

    @Palacono D'oh! Of course 4096x3112. 4:3 full-frame aspect ratio! Foolish me!

    The maximum resolution for a HitFilm 4 Express timeline is 1920x1080. So if you import 2K footage, you will lose a few pixels off of either side. Or you could scale it down a touch, and letterbox the top and bottom.
