i go an image off google images and tried to use it as a texture but the only problem is that there is the black background in the back of the image which covers all over particles emitted. is there a way to get rid of the black background or am i just wasting my time?

You could remove the black background with a photo editor, and then re-save it with alpha channel.

As RodyPolis mentions, you'll need to convert the image to a proper texture file before you import it into Hitfilm, if you want the final shape to be anything other than square. If you want parts of the image to be transparent, then you will need to use an alpha channel to specify which areas.

i tried doing this but it is extremely jumpy or is that just my processing power or ram or what ever and would i need to upgrade whatever the problem is?

Can you explain what 'this' is, and what exactly is jumpy? Please describe the problem in detail, so we can understand what is happening even though we can't see your screen.
I can't think of an instance where the textures are involved in making anything jumpy, so I'll need some further explanation. -
sorry i published this in the wrong thing i ment to put this in the one about the image sequence
