Hitfilm Trimmer Not Working

For the last few projects that I've been working on the trimmer refuses to work. I try to open my footage in the trimmer tab and its just blank. I know that the footage isn't blank because I can see it in other tabs. In previous hitfilm projects the trimmer has worked but it just stopped.
If it matters I'm working on a 2011 MacBook Air and using Hitfilm Express 16. I successfully used the trimmer in Hitfilm Express 14 before I updated.
This is what I see when I try to use the trimer tab.

Your 10 year old laptop is likely under minimum spec. You can find them here: https://fxhome.com/hitfilm-express/specs#tech

My laptop might be under minimum spec but everything else works perfectly, so I don't think that's the problem.

Under the spec means under the spec. No guarantees it will work and a likelihood it will not.
-
I have the same problem using an MSI Prestige Creator PC with 64gb RAM so, No don't blame the tools, something aint working.

The Trimmer Window will only show a Video File , Audio File or an Image File. It will not show a Composite Shot.

I didn't try to show a comp, I tried to show a video from the media tab and it didn't work.

2011 Macbook Air has an i5 2435m CPU with an Intel HD 3000 GPU. This is under spec for all versions of Hitfilm after 3. Current minimum specs are a 4th gen Intel i-series and HD 5000
Specs raised in Hitfilm 4, 13 and 16.
A GPU requires OpenGL 4 compatib8ility and OpenCL 1.2. The HD 3000 supports OpenGL 3.0 and Open CL 1.0. You absolutely can NOT run HF 16.
Earlier versions of Hitfilm required OpenGL 2.0 and OpenCL 1.0.
Unfortunately, since you ARE well under spec, there's nothing anyone can do to help with your issues. FXHOME likey has no hardware like yours to test with, and likely couldn't do anything if they did. Under spec is under spec. Bottom line is still you cannot run HF 16.
You can try reverting back to an earlier version of Hitfilm. If 15 worked, try that. Otherwise, try 12.

@2008dare the original poster's issue ultimately came down to having a PC way under spec to run Hitfilm, so...
System specs? CPU, GPU, OS, RAM and Storage?
