h.265 blank video on Hitfilm pro 16
I tested out my h.265 footage from my phone yesterday. Except for the lag from having an older computer, it worked just fine. I was suggested to install the HEVC extention from the microsoft store to make the codec run smoother, so I did. After installing and rebooting my computer, I went back to hitfilm and saw that the video is now blank. Audio works, but there's no video.

@ashguy1370 Just a thought, but try re-installing HF? (And/or completely uninstall and re-install) Interesting that you were able to play HEVC at all without the M$ codec. My instance would not work at all without it.
-
I just re-installed Hitfilm Pro and it still has that problem.
-
@Stargazer54 M$ included HEVC in Windows 10 till sometime in 2018.
@ashguy1370 it's possible, if your machine is more than two years old you already had an HEVC codec installed and the two are now fighting? If that's even possible. I could be on the wrong track here.
-
@Triem23 I think you're on the right track. I have HEVC (looked 1 sec ago) and it's older than the Fall creators update.
-
I thought that too. I reinstalled the hevc video extensions when I reinstalled Hitfilm Pro to see if it would work. I only have this now. There was only one shown before the uninstall.

Something tells me that Hitfilm Pro 16 may only support the old HEVC codec and not the version that you have to pay $1.00 for on the Microsoft store. Because I probably accidentally uninstalled both old version and the pay version when reinstalling the codec. When I had the version that came with my system, it worked, but now that I only have the new version that I had to pay for, it no longer works.

@ashguy1370 I can absolutely verify the HEVC codec that sells for $1 works. I beta tested 16, happened to put a brand new machine in service right before testing and had to install that exact pack.

I hope it's not a hardware issue.
I run a NVidia GeForce GTX 960m and Intel Core i7
HEVC videos work just fine on media players like VLC. and the Movie/TV app for windows.

Same here. For some reason I had two versions showing on my win 10 machine, neither worked. Uninstalled both, bought the $1 version and all is good now.
I will mention that I needed to do a system reboot after installing the $1 codec before it would work in HF.
As of today, this version seems to work fine on windows 10 home.

I did what you did, but nothing changed. I think my computer just can't handle this HEVC codec I have now. It is a 5 year old laptop after all.
-
The HEVC you installed is only 80kb versus the 6MB version I downloaded. Wonder if you installed the correct hevc library.
-
So after research, I found out that the HEVC footage was not showing up right because my footage has HDR10+ which needs hardware minimum of NVidia GeForce 1000 or higher. My laptop has GeForce 960M. Whatever the old HEVC codec support had before I got the updated one must have outdone the newer version. HEVC files in 8 bit are working, just the HEVC files with HDR10+ doesn't work on my laptop.
UPDATE: No HEVC footage works. Not even 8 bit footage. I think my hardware worked better with the old hevc support codec that's now gone forever.

Ashguy. Well, crud.
