Hologram Effect in Hitfilm 3 Express?

Can a hologram effect be done in Hitfilm 3 Express? If so, then how?

Or do I need to upgrade to Hitfilm Pro to create a hologram ?

    It totally depends on what you want your hologram to look like, but there are lots of ways it can be done in Express. At its core, a hologram effect is usually just a semitransparent video. Frequently it is tinted (usually blue), and it often has some sort of video degradation applied, like scan lines, flickering,  or distortion.

    Start with a greenscreen video of the subject of the hologram. Reduce the transparency of the layer. Then there are lots of effects in Express that can tint your video or add grunge and distortion to it, depending on the look you are after.
