A quick pointer for those trying to embed videos on the forums:

You can embed from YouTube or Vimeo.

Please ensure embedding is enabled on your chosen video.

To embed, you just need the URL, not the embed code. Copy the URL from the address bar, and paste it into a forum post, on a new line.

Click Post and you're done!
In the attached images I've highlighted the URL.

What about embedding videos from blip.tv on to the forums?
-
Not currently supported, but if a few people ask for it we'll add it to the wishlist.

http://www.youtube.com/user/Froiproductions?feature=mhee#p/u/0/bOR4aGNobN0 So is this viedeo now embedded?
-
MrJ: You have to give the link to the video on its own, not to the video within a channel. So the link to "SpaceCraft-Part 0: Overture" in that channel would be:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOR4aGNobN0

oh okay, sorry, i didn't know what part to cut out of it, (but i did see your picture about it though, i just didn't know for sure)
thanks! -
If you are working with YouTube, you can also click the "Share" link just below the video, copy the url it gives you there, and paste that into your post.
-
Cool, so now that video goes in to your data base thing now?? Like it said on your latest video
-
MrJ: In the latest video (August 2011 community roundup) Simon is talking about uploading your video to YouTube via HitFilm, with the "Broadcast to the HitFilm Channel" option ticked. That will get it added to our playlist, which is then displayed on various parts of the site.
Embedding videos on the forums is separate to this. If you embed a video, it just means the video is playable on that forum page, rather than the user having to click a link, play the video, then come back to the forums afterwards. -
Yes, I have seen that before, but I have been away for a few days, and I am on a mobile device, so now that I am back, I can do it on my laptop
-
okay, sorry i understand now! it's copying url to forums is basically the same, but people dopnt have to swap pages back and forth to see videos and forums, cool!
(only if mobile devices where as easy to understand than computers!!) -
Sooo... If i wanted to ... How cud I embed this link into a page on one of my posts? Call me stupid but thats just what I am :S lol
Heres the link I think:

Does this still work for vimeo? I started a thread and have tried this, but it didn't seem to work. I included the URL from the address bar on a line by itself, and it just showed a link.
I have embedding set to the default of "anywhere".

Try it with http:// rather than https://, it seems to be a little picky over that.
-
Thanks Daniel, seems to work!

It would be if you had changed the URL to http:// rather than https://...
