How To Get A Screenshot In Hitfilm Without Quality Loss

I wanna use a very specific frame from a scene in a video I am editing, I know you can take and use a screenshot in Hitfilm itself but when I look at the screenshot it is incredibly blurry. Is this because I am using a performance proxy? And if I don't use a performance proxy will the screenshot still loose quality?

I recently wanted to do this and found the best way was too set up an in and out for 1or 2 frames, then export to queue and change the effort to image sequence, this way it will render out as expected and you can just pull the image you want from the export.

I think you have stumbled into a bug in Hitfilm. In a quick test I do notice that Exported Frames are using the proxy and not the original media. An exported frame should be considered a 'final' render and not use the proxy media. Exporting a frame without the proxy should be fine.
Sadly Hitfilm does not have a mechanism of disabling a generated proxy without removing it entirely. Sadly the Hitfilm 'proxy' feature is well.... it is a proxy, but pretty messed up and not terribly functional beyond technically being a proxy. Quality proxies are excessive. Performance proxies are bad quality.

@Andy001z Good one!

Yes, that is a workaround, to what I class as a bug.
At some point, we the users, should not be doing the tricks and backflips for Hitfilm. It should be Hitfilm doing the tricks and backflips for us.

@NormanPCN Good point!

@Aimee I think the OP found a bug. I do not think single Frame export should be using the proxy media, just as 'normal' video export does not use proxy media.

Thanks @NormanPCN . You're correct, @lennnyblevens did find a bug 🐛
