How do I add an arrow, circle, or spotlight to a clip?
I have HitFilm Express (the free version) and I am wondering how I add an arrow, a circle, or a spotlight to follow a person. My friend's son is applying for college and plays basketball and I want to isolate and showcase him. I used to have FCP and AVID but they won't work with my OS (Mohave) and I refuse to update because I will lose Adobe Creative Suite (because I have paid thousands of dollars over the course of 3 decades to Adobe and refuse to subscribe).
Is this possible with the free version? If not, is there another free software that will?
Thank you!
Lisa

@fxhomer253351 Yes, this should be easily possible in Express. You will want create a duplicate track of you footage and so.e sort of brightness effect or whatever you like and darken it down. This layer will be above the original footage covering it. Then you will use the mask tool to draw a shape mask over the person you want to isolate and you can feather the mask a bit. Then you have either track this person with the trackers in Hitfilm create a point and apply the tracked data to it then parent the mask to the point, or just set a position key frame on the mask layer and advance the footage a few frames at time moving the mask and setting keys manually. Ill see if there is a tutorial on this...I think there is...and I'll link it here.
And I just found this one that may help better any poor screen cap I could do:
It's for an older version but the principle should still apply. Hope one if these helps you out.

@fxhomer253351 Here are a couple of more "Callout" tutorials that could definitely come in handy...
Good luck!

@FilmSensei I debated that first one when it came up while I was searching. Glad you included it.
