"You have to be around for a little while longer before you can post links."
Hey guys,
I just wanted to post a video in the "show off" section. But after having saved all the text + the video I got the message "You have to be around for a little while longer before you can post links.".
Why that? I'm here for several years and also posted some contributions (and video-links here in the past sucessfully). Please let me know what's going on.

I get this error when I try to insert a link of one of my youtube videos. Does anyone know why and how to fix it?

I believe this is because "Just Starting Out" users can no longer post links to prevent spamming from bots. However, it seems the forum's method of deciding whether a user is "just starting out" is a bit broken.

@DanSumner @Thomekk Like Ben said, I am sure that this is simply an issue with the forum's system for dealing with spam. Something has obviously changed that is causing this. I am also sure that it will be fixed in short order.
In the meantime, I'm sure I speak for everyone else here on the forums when I say that I look forward to seeing the videos that you were trying to share. That's what the Show Off category is all about, and I love looking at HitFilm projects that people create!

and well, yes I also thought that considering how the message is "worded" it could have something to do with avoiding spam (which is of course a problem to every platform). But, I'm here since August 2017 and have 86 posts and done nearly 30 videos with Hitfilm since then with a lot of learning, therefore I'm no pro at all, but hm "not just starting out". It's a bit degrading I guess. I don't know though which the criteria for the badges are/were when they were created.

@Thomekk hopefully we can get this sorted for you quickly! I've brought this up before as I've seen several users with minimal posts yet higher ranks, so I'm not entirely sure how it's being calculated in the backend.

@Thomekk Don't take it personally... It's got to be just a computer error. There is nobody behind the scenes with a big hammer saying, "Yeah, I don't like that guy's shot... BAM!" If that were the case, my whole account would have been deleted a long time ago.. BAM! 😀
In no way does it diminish your work or who you are as a person. Keep doing what you're doing, and I am sure we will get it fixed on our end.
PS: I'm with you, I have no idea how the badges work either. I believe they are there to encourage people to be more active on the forums. The problem is they don't do that very well if they prevent you from being active. Am I right?

Sorry to revive this old discussion, but I'm getting this message today. I know I'm listed as "Just Starting Out", but I have posted videos at least three times before with no problem, so I'm assuming the posting guidelines have changed (as I read above). How long does one need to be around for that status to change?

Hey @apyorick, in an effort to lessen the amount of spam, we put this rule into place for the time being while we work out a few things on the back end. The good news is that you're 9 points away from ranking up! Points are accumulated by comments, receiving likes, answering questions, and similar interactions.
