Trailer for Season 3 of my web series
I've done a quirky little web series just for fun for the past few years featuring Yorick (the skull from Hamlet) as he strikes out on adventures with his rather unorthodox crew. The first season was VERY basic stop-motion, then I switched to 2D animation for most of season 2 and all of season 2.5. This will be the first season (season 3) that I'll be using HitFilm and I'm really excited. Many thanks to Mike Miller (Triem) for the galaxy tutorial (I kept my galaxy kind of cartoony to go with the project) and Javert for the underwater tutorial! The ocean surface background was created with Flowscape, animation in CA4 and then everything edited in HF Express. Hope you enjoy it!

Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio Hornblower!
A terrible nautical pun to go with the pirate themed trailer.
Great detail in your galaxy, some very nice flowscape renders, and the mere concept of Yorick having his own adventures makes me giggle. Looks like fun.

Thanks so much! That was your tutorial, right? I'm pretty new at using HitFilm, but I was able to follow along easily. Thanks for posting that!
Now, about Yorick and 22 Bones (that's how many bones are in a skull). His "origin" story is that he is very disgruntled by the lack of opportunities for a "mere prop" at the Globe Theatre, so he strikes off on his own (he's a genius, by the way), builds some crew members and gathers some more along the way in his remarkable ship. They call themselves the Anachronauts. They end up having all kinds of sci-fi and fanatsy parody adventures (the most recent was to a Planet of Hats). Doing these off-kilter episodes is my fun "break" between more serious animation films.

Okay... this looks like it's going to be loads of fun! π I can't wait!

Yup, my galaxy tut. Glad it was helpful!
What a simple and wonderful motivation for Yorick! "Anachronauts" is a great name!
Edit: just shared this with a theater teacher friend. We agree we love the concept.

Thank you both!
I'll post the series blog here in case you're interested in some of the previous seasons: https://22boneswebseries.blogspot.com/ (there are links to the Vimeo and YT channels there as well as a lot of other stuff).
A bit of a warning: as I mentioned, the first season is mostly really basic stop-motion...and the first two seasons are in 4:3 format (I was going for vintage TV vibe), but there's an ingenious invention in the first episode of season 2.5 that brings us into the 16:9 world.π

@apyorick This looks like it will be crazy! π

Yep!π

@apyorick Looks good, and by the way, I looked at your last episode of season 1, and your stop motion looked very good! I understand the reason of moving to animation though,

Thanks so much! There were a few reasons I switched; flexibility of characters, the ability to get great facial expressions and lip synch, detailed hands, etc. I did love doing Stop Motion (it's a lot of fun), but felt I could get better "acting" from the 2D versions. What I did for the web series was take pics of the original stop motion character puppets from all different angles and use those to build the 2D characters from...and from there, just kept tweaking.

@apyorick Nice!
