Glowing Lights

I did some quick playing around and made this light effect.

Nice! How did you set that up?
-
I used some fractal noise, then added on a dot matrix and some 3d extrusion. Plus some glow of course!
-
Really nice. It actually looks like that the lights are glowing and it looks so real. This can easily be used in an animation. Do you make these jut for fun or do you work for some people?. Let me know if you are interested in doing some work. As you are really good in these.

I just do it for fun! I don't work for anyone yet (I'm 17) but would love to.

Ok, two "homework assignments," from the "Hitfilm University" guy. 😉
- Try this with text instead of fractal noise... Maybe increase the frequency of the dot matrix. You should be able get a good LED sign from this..
- Never tried 3D Extrusion on Dot Matrix before. That's a fantastic combination you've figured out! So don't wait too long to do the tutorial. 😁👍 I really, reaaly, reeaallyy wish I'd thought of this one first. *grumble grumble*
The effect looks really good. Take a look at @CleverTagline 's dice transition tutorial. It will show you how to "quantize" the frame to match the dots if you want the "tubes" to always light evenly.

@Triem23 The feeling is mutual. 🙂
@YPAnimations This is some really good stuff here! It reminds me of the old Lite Brite toy from my childhood. The original "pixel" art toy. 😉

@YPAnimations I can't get that video to play for some reason. Nothing happens when I click on it. Where is it hosted?
-
@CleverTagline Yeah I noticed that, anyway you an find the video at YP Animations on Youtube.
-
@CleverTagline I just did a current search of Youtube videos not playing off site. It seems Google/YouTube maybe disabling external play in the US ahead of the "stealing". A lot of people are reporting problems today. Vids play fine onsite - but not off site. Very interesting

Blipped over to YouTube for a view, and, YAH, BOYYYY! that looks amazing!
@GrayMotion coincidentally, @YPAnimations has come up with this technique the same week you're working with @spydurhank on setting up a 3D model with a wrapping LED display!
-
@YPAnimations That is pretty darn cool animation you have there!
It is crazy (great minds think a like?) that as @Triem23 said...Frank and I were working on a curved screen at the same time you were doing this. Now if I can just figure out how to make a moving "LED display" , say wrapping around a corner, we be in like Flynn. Cant wait to see your tutorial.

Awesome stuff @YPAnimations :)
We could use the same "bend option from the simple deform modifier" trick to get the LED lights to wrap around. I didn't post it but I make a test video version with a bunch of images moving right to left across the whole screen.
This would need to happen in a Comp that you'll use as the Diffuse map source for the Material override for the "Screen Material" Borrow ideas from 2D animators and create a "Point rig" to drive a single or multiple images which are neatly placed beside each other. Parent the images that should move from right to left to the "Point" and then animate and keyframe the "Point"

Awesome! Nice job on the tutorial! 👍

Very nice indeed!

Very cool! I'll be giving that a whirl very soon
