Water ripples using Caustic Effect
I just spent an evening learning how to use the Caustic effect to animate water, as per Triem’s YouTube tutorial on FxHome’s channel. I was successful in getting it to work, almost. I was trying to mask an irregular-shaped body of water but I couldn’t make the mask work on the plane. The mask kept reverting to the rectangular shape as if the mask wasn’t there. The effect works beautifully but I just couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong to be unable to shape it. Does anyone know what the solution to this is? I feel like it’s obvious but I’m just missing it. Do I need to duplicate the layer and somehow apply the effects to a secondary layer? I just want to be able to animate water that’s in unconventional shapes. Thanks so much.
