Boris FX is currently offering a standalone version of Particle Illusion for free for both PC and Mac. No Mocha support in the free version but it does have ProRes export.
Nice! Especially with the sheer amount of presets available after a couple of decades.
Free version is nice but missing composting over an image /video?
Really? Huh. I had Particle Illusion before Boris bought it, and it could load a BG video for reference, although one did have to export like a PNG sequence for later compositing. I'll look later tonight.
Btw, I do like Particle Illusion - although my last version was a 2009 update - but I will say Hitfilm's is far more powerful and a lot easier to track in. But the MAIN feature is the tons of presets. Particle Illusion used to release dozens of presets MONTHLY over YEARS. You can get so many presets - so much with custom media - it's certainly worth picking up for those! Heck, you'll get hundreds of little clip art sprites.
@Dimipapa I know the library of presets has dozens of anime and JRPG inspired power up, blast and hit effects, you'll love it.
I assume there is nothing stopping you rendering them out and then doing composting work in Hitfilm?
Great find! This is a really sweet application, and like @Triem23 said, the sheer amount of presets (2500!) makes it worth taking a look all by itself!
Definitely worth a look. I rendered out a quick test of a particle burst from the free version. It spit out a ProRes 4444 file (full alpha). Dropped right into HF and comped over a background plate with no fuss, no muss.
@Manhit Thanks for the heads up!
@Triem23 Here is the comparison chart https://borisfx.com/products/particle-illusion/#standalone-vs-plugin-comparison
Yup, I am afraid that @Andersen01498 is correct. The "Composite over a Source Video" and "Composite over a Source Frame" options are greyed out.
@Triem23 Free is definitely my favorite price. Oooh I used an ancient version of PI to make the particles in one of my old intros. I look forward to messing around with this.
woow. i was flashed of this particle engine… really easy to handle... much easier then hitfilm-emmiter
I agree with that!!! But Hitfilm particle engine is powerful in its own way but in my own opinion it needs to be rewritten
Here is a new video released this morning outlining the differences between the Plug-in Version and the Stand-Alone Version...
Wouldn't this be a super cool plug-in to HitFilm Pro?
@FilmSensei yeah, this and BCC.
@Triem23 Oh yeah!
Well after a 20min play I am blown away, this is very pretty and handy tool.
I have downloaded and installed it, but been tied up render out in Blender (to be posted later today...I hope) so I haven't got to look under the hood or kick the tires yet.
