Outline and tracking of a specific area in a moving shot

Hello all .... I'm trying to create this:

I'm on Hitfilm Pro 12.3.1984...Any help would be appreciated. I tried creating a point to track, created the dual mask for the outline, but can't get the outline to maintain shape/size as video moves and  dimensions change.

This video is using a tracking engine driven by mocha. If you want the spline points to more or less automatically follow the shape, purchase that add-on.

In Hitfilm itself you will have to manually animate the mask.

Ok. Thanks. I wasn't sure if that particular add-on would work with Hitfilm. As far as manually animating it, would it have to be done frame by frame to make it a smoother transition?

    Mocha is here.

With manual roto you actually want as few keyframes as possible. Going frame by frame is tedious and will wobble. That said, how much roto to do will depend on the shot. If you're tracking landscape features then you probably want to start with the frame where the element is largest in frame. Then do the first and last frames. Then you step through and look for the frame that's "most off" and correct for that. Repeat.

@Triem23...thank you so much for the Mocha recommendation. That was what I was looking for. Somewhat deep for my beginner level, but def something to learn.
