Your source media probably only has audio in one channel.

  • can i duplicate the sound of one side to the other?

Not in Hitfilm. Ok, not quite true, you could load your source files and resave them as mono, but Hitfilm is slow at this.

You have two choices - either use an external audio program (Audacity is free ) to extract the audio as a mono file and re-synch in Hitfilm. This has more steps but preserves source video image quality.

The other option is to use software like Handbrake or MPEG Streamclip to transcode the footage and force mono audio. In this case you should transcode to Cineform to maintain video quality. This will create significantly larger files.
