Youtube

OK when I copy/paste a YouTube link to a forum topic it embeds the video. I have raised before that any views in the forum post do not update the view count (which is a shame... but OK).
However, I see people linking YouTube videos *without* them embedding. Clicking the link takes you to their YouTube video and the views count.
How do they enter YouTube links into a forum post without them being turned into embedded videos?
Thanks

"I see people linking YouTube videos *without* them embedding. Clicking the link takes you to their YouTube video and the views count." - Doubtful
You are not embedding the link if you use the "share" code or the page url that YT generates. Embedding involved writing the code directly to the page (html, php)
Unless you are unable to embed the code (which you cannot unless you own the site) views will NEVER be counted from shared or direct link url's pasted into forums.
Trackable
Embedd code - http s://www.youtube.com/embed/HpHZsFZaoo8
Not trackable:
Share code - http s://youtu.be/HpHZsFZaoo8
Direct link http s://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpHZsFZaoo8 -
Thanks @Graymotion
So what has @erisl11 used in this post HERE which takes you to their YouTube video page?

That's just a direct link pasted into the content bounding box. The m in the link is just a mobile redirect code for mobile devices.

OK so...
They both seem to have generated views. I really don't get it.
<edit> They seem to add views when displayed as URLs but not once they are shown as a video within the post.

If those last 2 were urls I wouldn't see the player box? You must have added them via the forum button...which embeds them in a Iframe of sorts for the forum software.
Dunno bud...Youtube giveth...Youtube taketh away.
Why you worried about views from this forum anyways? Chances are less than a dozen users will even watch from here. Hardly anything to lose sleep over.
Edit: >> Back in the day it was all about link juice and YT and embedding videos was a way to game the ranking system. It was fairly easy to mass distribute video , accompany text and backup documents (from other sites) and really gain authority in the eyes of the algorithm called "Google". Well...times have changed. The algo has gotten smarter. It knows if the views are you, real or bot and what sites and their "authority" are coming from.
Youtube is seriously generous in allowing your url and Title to be indexed and "followed". Although all other links on a given Youtube page are "nofollow"...No love..to vouching for authority...just there.
{"videoId":"COXFAp5v_X8","nofollow":true}
Same goes for this forum. They cant afford to lose love and "authority" by bleeding juice so all external links are Nofollow.
<p>I go into more depth on my <a rel="nofollow" href="http://diyfilmguy.wixsite.com/blog">blog</a>, where I post updates Monday, Wednesday, Friday. I discuss more about editing this short in a blog post, which you can find <a rel="nofollow" href="https://diyfilmguy.wixsite.com/blog/single-post/2017/07/19/Lego-Star-Wars">here.</a></p>
Link juice is still very powerful....and full length views, where the views are coming from and who's viewing it plays a much larger roll in where the video ranks (preforms) now days but like I said before .....Youtube/Google giveth...Youtube/Google taketh away.
Oh...and they're kinda like NASA to - Never A Straight Answer -

Yeah I realise that but didn't understand how different style of links was creating different results.
