Fade 2 Clips BUT NOT to black?

Iv been searching on google and youtube on how to fade clips together and all I'm getting is videos of people fading from a solid colour such as black.
What I'm actually trying to do is fade to clips from one to another so there is no 'fade to black, fade to next clip' as such. it just uses each clip to fade over one another if that makes sense, is this possible because I cannot find any info anywhere on this and its driving me crazy.
