So a light saber cuts a dudes arm/ body part off (not sure what part yet) something like in here: at 1:46 and when it is on the floor with his arm off at 1:51
How do I do something like that? Showing his arm gone? I have never done this.
@HIS_Films This could be done with masks or a green glove. Since you you don't actually see the cut that severs the arm (a much harder shot BTW), you simply create a mask to remove the lower portion of the arm. Now, the arm on the ground would easiest be done by inverting that mask and exporting a PNG of only that portion of the arm you masked out in the other shot. You could take it into a photoediting program and create a bloody end to it if you needed for realism and same with the other portion; create a stump PNG in photo software and track/parent it to the arm in the shot. But that's just how I would approach it. I'm sure there are better ways somebody else may know.
@tddavis So I would need a clean plate first, correct? In order to mask the arm off? Then record the arm in front of a green screen, and animate it falling. I think I got it, thanks!
@HIS_FIlms When in doubt always clean plate. You never know what might come up in post and that it will save your butt. Truthfully, it's not a practice that I adhere to as religiously as I should either.
@tddavis Great, then I will do that, filming tonight! Hope we get get a lot done, since one of my actors works till 5, we do not have much time before dark! Thanks!
If the light is changing as you film, get a clean plate before every bit of action too.
As a reminder, since Halloween is almost here, many stores are selling the full body green/blue suits For around $25-$30
Film Riot has some useful videos
Techniques easily adapted to Hitfilm.
@triem23 I remember now watching those episodes from film riot! Thanks triem!
