Best way to import 1080p 60fps
Hi, I'm trying to edit some 1080p 60fps footage and keep the quality as good as possible. Now eventually after alot of googling i ended up converting the footage to DNxHD using eyeframe but after exporting the project from hitfilm I noticed it was blurry.
So I then tried messing with bitrate settings and anti ailiasing in hitfilm thinking it was one of those. Now turns out it was the DNxHD footage (99% sure) so wanting more options I've tried to use MPEGStreamclip. This has now let me to the problem of DNxHD apparently not supporting 1080p/60fps (only 1080i/59.94fps). So now I feel like Im just going in circles does anyone have some advice on the best way I can accomplish this?
In short I need to:
1. Take footage saved as an MP4 at a variable refresh rate
2. Convert it into an easy to edit file (hence the DNxHD) and have a Constant Refresh rate
3. Edit this all and export it with the settings that retain the best quality
Any helps appreciated, thanks

DNxHD does support 1080p60 as well as 1080p59.94. It does not support 60.0p in 720 mode and it does not support 30.0 in any mode.
If your footage *is* the problem maybe you converted to an interlace variant of DNxHD. Or something else. All guessing.
Why don't you give us a MediaInfo text report from one of your transcode files. You can copy+paste the text report directly from MediaInfo into a post here.
You can watch the DNxHD transcode in a video player or in the Hitfilm viewer and if it is not blurry there, the transcode is not the problem.
Also, you can transcode your 60.0 media to DNxHD 59.94 without a quality problem. In that situation you would make your project 59.94 to match.
Lastly, you can convert to DNxHR at any frame rate and frame size.

Hi Norman, thanks in streamclip I can't see any option that lets me get 1080p/720p in 60fps the highest I can see is 1080i/59.94 DNxHD 220 10-bit im probably missing something though and heres the MediaInfo for oen of the files

Your DNxHD file *is* 60p. So if you did not see it in the list, or select it then I don't know how you resulted in that.
Format profile : [email protected]
Codec ID : AVdn
Codec ID/Info : Avid DNxHD
Bit rate mode : Constant
Bit rate : 90.4 Mb/s
Width : 1 920 pixels
Height : 1 080 pixels
Frame rate mode : Constant
Frame rate : 60.000 FPS
Bit depth : 8 bits
Scan type : ProgressiveYou did choose the DNxHD Proxy (low bandwidth) quality option of DNxHD. You don't want to do that. Stick with the Standard quality option.
I don't know how MPEGstreamclip lists DNxHD but Standard quality at 1080p60 is 290 Mbs. If they list bitrates the lowest one will be the proxy quality setting and the next one up is probably the standard setting.
I just looked at the Quicktime interface to access Avid codecs via Vegas. That Quicktime interface seems all messaged up. It may be similar in streamclip. No idea. I did not see even 1080p59.94 listed there let alone 1080p60.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Avid_DNxHD_resolutions
As I said, DNxHR should not have any problem with frame size or frame rate combinations. Consider that if you have issues getting a proper 1080p60 DNxHD file. Convert V4 could be an alternate transcode app option.

@NormanPCN I'm pretty sure @shefski55555 is right and there aren't any 1080p 60 fps DNxHD options available via QuickTime. FFMpeg or Convert V4/Dali's Mustache are probably the best option for transcoding

Hmm ok thanks the file info i sent you was actually from eyeframe, i think I'm gonna end up using the 1080i/59.94 i see in streamclip because whenever i look at the file it still says 60fps and streamclip lets me choose the quality properly but thanks for your help and thanks @aladdin4d I'll look into those if i run into anymore issues

I tested Convert V4 and no issue generating 1080p60.
For giggles, I tried sneaking a 720p60 through but as expected, no dice. In Convert V4 it came out at 1080p60.
edit: With Convert, now Dali, being free. I call that the goto transcoder for DNxHD/HR and Prores.
