I made an intro for my videos but I can't figure out how to export it with a transparent background. Can anyone help?
I have generally exported a png sequence with alpha enabled for transparency and then re imported and used as a layer. Just recently I found out that avi files can have the alpha enabled but I haven't done it yet. I'll see if I can find that thread and add here.
In this thread here:
posted this about transparent video:
Yes! Always render with Alpha. In fact if you have options to render a video file in 32bit that will give you alpha, as well. Depending on your 3D software package you may see the Alpha option listed as 32bit, Alpha, 4:2:0:4 or 4:2:2:4.
Of course you could always export just the video portion without the sound to get the transparent areas and then re-import as an image sequence and put the sound with it then. PNG, I believe, is a lossless format so there should be no degradation.
Hopefully this will point you in the direction you want to go.
@tddavis I don't see anything about exporting with alpha. I saw someone use quicktime that won't work on windowns
@eyebeesea In my Pro 4 export feature you select AVI export and drop down to the bottom setting under Color depth and change RGB to RGBA to do video.
Here's a screen cap:
@tddavis that worked thank you
Uncompressed AVI works, but it's huge files. If you're on Hitfilm Pro 2017, you can export Cineform with Alpha, and that will yield smaller files.
For future reference, darn near everything about import/export in Hitfilm.
Doggone it, I forgot all about your University export video! I shoukd have linked that.
