2 Questions: Flicker on 3D lights and shadows.

Hi there. I am playing more with the program recently and finding out how much I do not know.
1) I was applying the techniques appearing here on a different shot
but my 3D model does not seem to be projecting any shadow anywhere. I have ticked receives shadows and ambient occlusion on the floor plane, I have ticked cast shadows on the light, I have ticked cast shadows and ambient occlusion on the model...
Any idea of what could it be that I am missing?
2) I have a fire in my composite and I wanted the 3D lights to flicker, but the flicker effect only applies to layers. I thought about keyframing the intensity and the reach of the light to emulate it, but I wonder if there's an easier way.
Thanks in advance!

You could try with a 3D grade layer, and apply the flicker effect to that layer. Otherwise, animation it is

Thank, @Emecorp. I will give that a try.

Well, the grade layer did not work, so animation it is.
I did manage to solve the problem with the shadows: The floor layer must be on top of the object layer for the shadow to appear. To me this did not make sense, but it is what works, in case someone else is stuck with that problem too.
