I recently started to use DXTory as my new game recording software and I also found out about Hitfilm being a great editing software as well. When I import media the file says error and I believe it is a problem with the codec. Please let me know of any codecs that Hitfilm supports or how to fix my problem.

You need to use a VfW codec like Cineform which comes with the free GoPro Studio or Ut Video. These are both intermediate codecs so the files will be large but both are known to work with HitFilm

I usually use the notorious ffmpeg to convert. For example with this I can convert a 1080p PPM "video" to DNxHD.

    ffmpeg -i input.ppm  -r 30 -vcodec dnxhd -b 185Mb -mbd rd -an output.mov

    and for x264

    ffmpeg -i input.ppm -r 30 -c:v libx264 -preset slow -crf 10 -pix_fmt yuv420p -an output.mp4

It's very slow with "-mbd rd", but I have a server to convert, so I can add it to a queue. And sometimes forget it for days :D For gource animations it's a very effective workflow. It's free and has a windows edition too.

Edit: These two kills the audio track! Be careful :)
