Lowering Contrast

The contrast in my footage is to high for color grading, so is there any filter or trick i can use to get less contrast.
Changing my camera's contrast setting has not helped, can someone help me.
Thank you

    Try adjusting the gamma.
  • In camera, because I can not do that, our in hitfilm?

I suspect the issue is that the dynamic range of the scene you are trying to capture is larger than a camera can handle, so that either your highlights are blown out to white in areas, or the entire scene is very dark, with solid black shadows. If that's the case, then the only solution is to change the lighting, so things are more evenly lit. The light is too bright and hard, so you need to either use additional lights to illuminate things from the other side, or diffuse the existing light to soften things down a bit, so you can bring the tonal range of the scene in line with what the camera can handle.
But really, that's just a guess; without seeing the footage so we can understand what the specific problem is, then guessing is all we can do.
